Good Naked (London) is pleased to present MOODS - a two-person presentation featuring Jefreid Lotti and Caitlin Parker.
Jefreid Lotti and Caitlin Parker explore their immediate environments with a personal and psychological curiosity. Pulled toward the tensions of overlapping and often conflicting strata, they mine the streets for material and forms that begin to articulate their views on such unstable grounds.
In Lotti’s current body of work, his primary medium is oil paint on handmade paper. Painterly heads (mostly self-portraits) depict figures in deep states of being, thick globs of paint sit tenuously on the surface as the materials suggest both skin and emotion, and faces read as if they are forming and falling apart all at once. Whether it's the melting blue-collar worker sweating in the heat of Miami or the distracted mother staring at her phone for too long, the portraits in this series reveal each subject’s vulnerability, beauty, and pain via abstracted appearances and the blending of artist and subject.
Parker’s paintings are constructed entirely out of fabric through machine and hand quilting, sewing, appliqué, and embroidery. All works incorporate textiles modified with natural dye, cyanotype, hand printing, and bundle dyeing. Parker’s local environment of Southern California inspires much of her subject matter and she’s explored toxic superfund sites such as George Air Force Base, ongoing ecological disasters like the Salton Sea, and the iconic LA River. Her paintings meditate on the natural world, celebrating its resilience as mankind and nature intersect and battle for survival and space. Parker’s stitching together of each segment of dyed and printed material highlights these fragmented and still unified landscapes, which she describes with a critical and empathetic eye.
