Perspectival shifts abound in this reverie of abstract allusion. Color and form wade and set as each material takes shape on uneven ground. Calling on traditions of expressive landscape painting and meticulously sewn textile/craft Corey Ruecker and Amy Kim Keeler explore the possibilities of picturing an alternate space/field of vision. Ruecker’s paintings are fluid in their descriptions of washy landscapes that pull us in and push us back. Keeler’s handmade abstractions reminisce on light and range, sound waves and striations, as she stitches patterns informed by Anthroposophy and Goethe. Kira Maria Shewfelt and Dylan Wilde's works propel us into the expansive and the microscopic breadth of experience. Emotive stillness reflects the intimacy of daily life with a fantastical reality. Shewfelt uses lyrical cascades of color to describe emotions supported within a framework of deep understanding of the history of image making. Wilde’s tightly realized familiar moments radiate with enveloping light, cold unyielding shadows, joy, and uncertainty.
Butting against the stark sardonic cry of daily sludge, these four artists summon hope in the possibility of connection to a natural rhythm of imperfection that might yield transport in our understanding of material, sight, and time. Their close examinations of moments and being deftly make beguiling the ontological.
